The story of India-Chat.org is, at its heart, a story about belonging. In an era before social media dominated the internet, a group of tech-savvy Indians — scattered across universities in India, the UK, and North America — found each other on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) networks and created something they deeply needed: a digital home where they could be unapologetically, authentically Indian.

What started as a handful of friends sharing Bollywood news, cricket scores, and homesickness jokes grew into something far larger and more meaningful than any of the founders could have imagined.

A Channel Finds Its Purpose 🔥
The channel that would eventually become India-Chat.org began on a public IRC network, created by a small circle of Indian students and young professionals. Their shared love of cricket, Bollywood music, and home cooking drew in dozens, then hundreds of like-minded Indians. The atmosphere was warm, witty, and unmistakably desi — full of Hindi movie references, regional inside jokes, and the kind of banter you'd hear in any college hostel in India.

Users from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and every other state began joining in. This geographic diversity enriched the community enormously. The trivia channel was established during this period and quickly became the most popular room on the network, attracting competitive players from every corner of India.
